TIFF: Tagged Image File Format is a variable-resolution bitmapped image format common for transporting colour or grey-scale images. These files are large and of very high quality. They are highly portable; most graphics, desktop publishing and Word processing applications understand them. These files are usually much larger then JPEGs. They support multi-page images in a single file.

JPEG: Joint Photographic Experts Group is a standardised image compression mechanism. It compresses either full-colour or greyscale images, and works best with photographs and artwork. It achieves much greater compression but not at the high quality of TIFF in comparison. These files are useful for storing and transporting images due to greater compression.

PDF: Portable Document Format is a file format developed by Adobe as a means of distributing compact, platform-independent documents. Each file encapsulates a complete description of a fixed-layout 2D document that includes the text, fonts, images and 2D vector graphics which compose the documents. You can view the files either with Adobe Reader or via a Web browser with the PDF viewer plug-in. These files are useful for storing and transporting files due to being quite compact.
